15. Jake earns $2,470 a month. Yoko earns $2,745 a month.

(a) How much more money does Yoko earn than Jake?

(b) How much do they earn altogether?

Solution(15):

(a)

$2745 – $2470 = $275

Yoko earns $275 more than Jake.

(b)

$2745 + $2470 = $5215

They earn $5215 altogether.

16. Sophia has 2100 stamps in her collection. Yoko has 1900 more stamps than Sophia. How many stamps do they have altogether?

Solution(16):

2100 + 1900 = 4000

Yoko has 4000 stamps.

4000 + 2100 = 6100

They have 6100 stamps altogether.

17. Shop A sells 4,985 shoes in a month. Shop B sells 1,200 shoes more than Shop A. Shop C sells 2,350 fewer shoes than Shop B. How many shoes does Shop C sell?

4985 + 1200 = 6185

Shop B sells 6185 shoes

6185 – 2350 = 3835

Shop C sells 3835 shoes.

18. Andrew has 3967 stickers. His sister gives him another 450 stickers. Andrew then gives 1050 stickers to his brother. How many stickers does Andrew have left?

Solution(18):

3967 + 450 = 4417

Andrew has 4417 stickers.

4417 – 1050 = 3367

Andrew has 3367 stickers left.

19. Isaiah drove 4,745 mi. in January. He drove 2,080 mi. less in February than in January. Find Isaiah’s total driving distance in these 2 months.

Solution(19):

4745 – 2080 = 2665

He drove 2665 km in February.

4,745 + 2,665 = 7,410

Isaiah’s total driving distance in these 2 months was 7,410 mi.

20. Raj used 5000 stone bricks to build a castle. He used 4360 fewer stone bricks to build a house.

(a) How many stone bricks did he use to build the house?

(b) How many stone bricks did he use altogether?

Solution(20):

(a)

5000 – 4360 = 640

He used 640 stone bricks to build the house.

(b)

5000 + 640 = 5640

He used 5,640 stone bricks altogether.
