Coin Name and Value
What is coin?
Coin is a metal
based currency. The coins are used as a form of money. In USA some important
coins are penny, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar.
The values of those
coins are given below:
1 Penny = 1 cent.
1 Nickel = 5 cents.
1 Dime = 10 cents.
1 Quarter = 25
cents.
1 Half Dollar = 50
cents.
Remember: 100 cents = 1 Dollar.
1. Julie has 2 nickels and 1 penny. How much money does Julie have?
Solution:
2 nickels = 1
nickel + 1 nickel
= 5 cents + 5 cents
= 10 cents
So, 2 nickels + 1
penny
= 10 cents + 1 cent
= 11 cents.
So, Julie has 11
cents now.
2. Ram has 50 cents. His mother gives him 2 quarters. How much money Ram
have?
Solution:
2 quarters
= 1 quarter + 1
quarter
= 25 cents + 25
cents
= 50 cents.
So, 50 cents + 2
quarters
= 50 cents + 50 cents
= 100 cents
= 1 dollar
So, Ram has 1
dollar now.
3. Noah has 3 dimes. He spends 1 nickel. How much money does Noah have
now?
Solution:
2 dimes = 1 dime + 1
dime + 1 dime
= 10 pennies + 10 pennies + 10 pennies
= 30 pennies
= 30 cents.
1 nickel = 5 cents.
So, 3 dimes – 1 nickel
= 30 cents – 5 cents
= 25 cents.
So, Noah has 15
cents now.
