What is a Digit?

A digit or numerical digit is a single symbol that is used alone or with other symbols to represent a number in the numeral system. There are 10 digits. They are: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.


What is a Number?

A number is a mathematical expression that is formed by a digit or more digits used to count measure and label.

Example:

The natural numbers: 1,2,3, and so forth.


What is Natural Number?

The counting number (1 to infinity) is called natural number. Such as: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,………….


Notable Information about Digit and Number:

(i) One digit smallest number:

0 is the one digit smallest number (In the case of whole numbers)

1 is the one digit smallest number (In the case of Natural numbers)


(ii) One digit greatest number:

9 is the one digit greatest number.


(iii) Two digits smallest number:

10 is the two digits smallest number.


(iv) Two digits greatest number:

99 is the two digits greatest number.


(v) Three digits smallest number:

100 is the three digits smallest number.


(vi) Three digits greatest number:

999 is the three digits greatest number.

So, n digits smallest number = 1 after (n-1) zeros
